FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Can a Memorial Day tradition lead to Great Lakes terror?Premise of Michigan thriller unleashes warship on the lakes.23 June, 2006 -- MUSKEGON – This Memorial Day weekend caretakers at the Great Lakes Naval Memorial and Museum will fire up the massive diesel engines aboard renowned WWII submarine USS Silversides as they have for the past fifteen years. But what if this year the resurrection is taken one step further and the lethal warship is turned loose to stalk the contemporary Great Lakes? Such is the premise of Michigan author J. Ryan Fenzel’s new novel DESCENDING FROM DUTY. “It’s a renegade submarine yarn spun with a hefty dose of local color,” Fenzel says of his tale. “I wanted to write the kind of story normally set on a global stage and fit it comfortably in our own back yard.” The events in the book unfold along Michigan’s west coat and across the Great Lakes. “I realized early on in my research for the story that the Coast Guard, Homeland Security and law enforcement agencies just aren’t prepared to deal with this sort of threat. If a fully armed Silversides were to disappear into open water it would be a big problem.” Ironcroft publishes mystery, thriller, and speculative fiction influenced by America's Midwest.
